1. Have passed all previous levels.
2. Perform USEF Training level test 1 with a score of 50% or better
Test may be read for student
Test will be judged using USDF guidelines for
horse and rider, including accuracy of movements, quality of gaits, riders
seat and hands and use of the aids
3. Canter a figure of 8 with a simple change of lead through the walk and trot
Circles should be twenty meters. Circles should be round. Horse’s pace
should be even, horse should show bend through the head and neck. Change of
direction should show a change of bend, and the horse should trot only a few
strides if at all when changing leads. Figure eight will start from the halt
through the walk and finish with a halt through the walk.
4. Leg Yield at the walk and trot on the long side
The leg yield should be demonstrated with correct placement and use of
rider’s leg. Horse should remain correctly bent and facing in the direction
the leg yield was started (ie. not turn and walk diagonally to the wall).
Horse should maintain forward momentum while yielding from the leg. Rider
should explain that the horses legs should cross in a correct leg yield, The
horses legs should cross when the rider leg yields.
5. Rein back
At a halt, squeeze with calf as if to ask your horse to walk all the while
holding a closed hand. As the horse takes a step backward, relax your legs
to allow horse to back up.
6. Jump a series of small bounces
Jumps to be set at 18-inch, rider should show correct position as well as
correct closing over the jumps, and correct use of aids to control horse.
Jump a course of 2-foot jumps with some trotting and some cantering simple
changes of lead ok.
Rider to demonstrate control over their horse, ride to and from the fences
straight with an even pace, without extreme speed. Horse should show even,
correct distances to the jumps. Rider should demonstrate correct equitation,
both between and over the jumps.
7. Student will perform two maintenance activities.
One activity will be of
the examiners choice, and one will be of the rider’s choice. Grooming
activities include mane pulling, tail washing, clipping muzzles, bridle
path, legs, etc.
8. Be able to perform all previous level tests on an unfamiliar horse.
Rider should be able to perform any of the previous riding elements
completely and correctly on a horse of the examiner’s choice.
